A lifelong resident of Bogalusa Louisiana and a proud graduate of Bogalusa High School and Grambling State University, where he earned his master’s degree, Michael embraced the university’s timeless motto, “Where Everybody Is Somebody.” That belief has shaped the way he leads: treating every person with dignity, respect, and the understanding that every voice matters. While at Grambling, he built lifelong relationships through football, brotherhood, and service that continue to influence his leadership today.
Michael’s public service journey began when he was elected at 23 to represent District B on the Bogalusa City Council, where he faithfully served from 2006 to 2014. During those years, he became known as a passionate, thoughtful leader who could bring people together, build trust, and move important work forward. His leadership helped advance major city improvements, including highway expansion, park enhancements, and the revitalization of Louisiana Avenue. He also served as City Council President, giving him both the experience and insight needed to lead the city at the highest level.
Beyond public office, Michael’s heart for people is evident in his spiritual leadership. In 2014, he founded Christ Way Ministries, a growing church built on hope, healing, and transformation. Under his guidance, the ministry has expanded its vision, purchased land, and is developing a new church campus that reflects his long-term commitment to building stronger foundations for families and future generations.
At home, Michael is a devoted husband to Christa Owens O’Ree, a proud father of five, and a loving grandfather. His deep love for family is the same love he brings to Bogalusa — a belief that every neighborhood deserves safety, every child deserves opportunity, and every family deserves a city they can be proud to call home.
Most recently, Michael was appointed by the Bogalusa City Council to continue the legacy of the late Dr. Danielle Keys, a respected public servant and trusted friend. He carries that responsibility with honor and remains committed to restoring confidence in leadership, strengthening community trust, and bringing people together across every part of the city.
